Workspaces

A workspace holds a set of chats and the files their agents work on. Its mode decides what happens to those files when a box stops: start clean, save and sleep, or stay on.

Temporary, persistent, always on#

You choose the mode when you create a workspace, under File persistence.

Mode	Files	Good for
Temporary	Discarded when the box stops. Every box starts clean.	One-off tasks, experiments, anything you don't need to keep.
Persistent	Saved to secure storage and restored the next time a box starts, on any machine.	Ongoing projects: a repo, a research folder, a logged-in browser profile.
Always on	Saved like persistent, and the box keeps running.	Agents that watch, serve or answer at any hour.

How saving works#

A persistent or always-on workspace is saved when its box stops, after it has been idle for a while, and every few minutes while it runs. You can also choose Save now in the workspace.

Each save is a new version. A save that fails never replaces the last good one; the workspace shows the failure and keeps the earlier version.
Saves are encrypted before they are stored, with a key made for that version alone.
When no box is running, the file browser still shows the latest saved files.

Sleeping and waking#

A persistent workspace's box stops when it has been idle, and sleeps: nothing runs, so no running time is charged. Open a chat in it, or let an agent start work, and a new box starts with your files restored. An always-on workspace's box doesn't sleep. If the machine under it fails, it restarts elsewhere from its last save.

Changing the mode#

Change the mode in the workspace's settings. Moving to persistent or always on starts saving from the next save. Moving back to temporary stops saving; you're asked to confirm first, because the saved files are no longer restored.

Temporary workspaces keep nothing after the box stops. Download anything you need first, or switch the workspace to persistent.

What each mode costs#

Mode	How it's charged
Temporary	The box's hourly price while it runs, billed by the second.
Persistent	A flat monthly fee per workspace box, with storage included, plus the hourly price while it runs.
Always on	One flat monthly price.
